Notes:
(1) South Korea has one national police system, which is centralized and hierarchized (Korean National Police Agency).
(2) In 2000, Korean National Police Agency reformed police statistic system. After the innovation, the property crime rate showed of increasing sharply and then of stabilizing.
(3) Seven offenses were used and adjusted to set to UCR Part I Crime Index: Criminal Homicide, Forcible Rape, Robbery, Aggravated Assault, Burglary, Larceny/Theft, and Motor Vehicle Theft.
Overview:
The Crime Index Total rate (per 100,000 population) in 2005 was 868.9, a decrease of 9.9 percent over the 2000 rate. The Violent Crime rate in 2005 was 476.4, a 19.9 percent decrease over the 2000 rate, while the Property Crime rate was 392.2, an slight increase of 6 percent over the 2000 rate.
